It’s been too long…

It’s been too long since I posted last.  Too long for me anyway.  Not long enough for others!

A few notes for you…

  1. I’m in San Francisco today attending the Finovate Startup Conference in support of a new client.  They have an incredible new product launch coming very, very soon that we are very excited to be promoting.  More on that later.
  2. I’m definitely going to kill Pour Out.  Well, maybe not kill it, but definitely import all of the posts over to another blog and re-brand.  I’m thinking about MixedChris.com or ChrisRemixed.com.  MixedChris as in “mixed bag” or “hodgepodge.”  ChrisRemixed as in “this is my 47th attempt at a blog and I really just want to brand this attempt as me, not some fake word (Voxacious?) or phrase I’m trying to make my own.  What do you think? Vote in the comments (if you care to) and let me know why you like/dislike each name.
  3. Finovate is very cool so far.  They allow 40 tech-heavy startup companies from the financial industry to come in and live-demo their product for 5 minutes to the audience.  After the demo sessions, attendees have time to network with the presenters.  It’s a great, simple format.  Watching people live-demo their products is pretty cool.  You learn how to do some things, and you also learn how to not do some things.  Things you shouldn’t do include: When faced with technical difficulties, never say “Uh oh” or “I have no idea what’s going on.”  Also, make sure your site content is large enough and legible enough to be presented to a mass audience on a big screen.

Geez, I think I kind of missed blogging.

So like I said…

I dealt with a situation on Tuesday where a person I was playing phone tag with just couldn’t “get” what I was trying to communicate to them.

While leaving this person the third voicemail of the day, I caught myself saying this: “So like I said, if you could just…” and I went on to tell them the same exact thing that I told them during the two previous voicemails.

If the person had really bothered to think about the words I was using, he probably could have heard me saying this: “So like I said, in the previous two voicemails I left you, but you were obviously too stupid to comprehend them, so I’ll say it again and hopefully this time you’ll “get” it and do what it is I’m asking you to do, if you could just…”

Thank goodness the person didn’t hear it that way, because it’s not what I intended to communicate, but it absolutely got me thinking about my/our use of “So like I said…” Here’s what I came to: I don’t think there’s ever a proper way to use “So like I said…” in any form of communication, be it voicemail, e-mail, snail mail or text.

What do you think?

San Jose, Etc.

So, like I said, I’m heading to San Jose for a couple of days next week to attend the Radio Ink Convergence Conference.

A guy has to eat, right?  So can anyone make some restaurant recommendations?

Illegal Art?

Now THIS is a great question.

Radio Ink - Convergence ‘08

The 2008 edition of Radio Ink’s Convergence Conference will feature interesting panel discussions on topics like “Revitalizing Stodgy Old Media” and “Digital Media Trends Radio Needs to Embrace.” Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak will be the opening speaker and golden-voiced Tech Guy Leo Laporte will deliver the keynote. Should be interesting.

Do you know the way to San Jose? Geez, that was lame.  I’m sorry.  I really am.

What I meant to say was, if you’re headed to Convergence, let me know and maybe we can grab some coffee!

Crashing The Grammys

Rhett & Link pull it off, and despite the misspelling of Mastodon, hilarity ensues.  Enjoy.

This video totally makes me want to do something like the Lionel Project.  Any suggestions?

Thanks to BT for the tip.

My new obSessions…

The Black Cab Sessions are a series of online videos (31 chapters and counting) that feature members of world class bands like The National, Okkervil River and The Raveonettes showing off their acoustic chops in the back seat of one of London’s black cabs.

Check out the latest chapter below: Spoon frontman Britt Daniel performing “I Summon You,” one of my favorite tracks off Gimme Fiction.

History Made in Dallas

Almost 11,000 of you showed up to see Dave do his thing from the stage of the Reunion Arena this past Saturday, making the Dallas edition the single largest Total Money Makeover LIVE! event our company has ever done.

Thank you Dallas, and thank you KLIF.  Your support is unfreakingbelievable.

Now check out these really cool shots taken by our own Chris Mefford.

Have you ever?

Only one question for today, but it’s a good one:

Have you ever answered your phone at work and encountered an honest-to-goodness, certifiable crazy person? We’re talking screaming, name calling, the whole works…

Please share.

Deadly Viper Character Assassins

Deadly Viper Character Assassins is a great little book I’ve been meaning to recommend for some time now. No time to read? Don’t worry. You can knock this thing out on a 2 hour plane ride. It won’t bore you either; Visually it’s one of the most stunning hardbacks you’ll ever pick up. The content ain’t too shabby either.

DVCA puts a kung-fu spin on the issues we encounter that can attack our integrity. Issues like the love of money, sexual impurity and out-of-control emotions. The authors, Mike Foster and Jud Wilhite, share their personal struggles as well as the experiences of others in a way that makes you want to join the conversation. The only problem I have with this book is that it came without the proper warning label: WARNING: Ingesting this material may lead to self-examination.

Want to score the MP3 download of the DVCA audiobook for free? Good, because they’re giving it away.
